About

During his time on Cleveland City Council, Kerry McCormack has fought to improve quality of life for all residents, to promote progress in our neighborhoods that benefits all and to provide opportunities for people of different backgrounds to meaningfully connect. Kerry, a City of Cleveland native, was sworn in as the Ward 3 Councilman in April 2016, succeeding Councilman Joe Cimperman.

Prior to his service on Council, Kerry was involved in neighborhood-based work as a community organizer in the Ohio City neighborhood. At Ohio City Incorporated, Kerry worked very closely with residents, nonprofit agencies, small businesses and other community stakeholders to identify needs in the community and develop programs and initiatives to raise the quality of life in his neighborhood.

Kerry was successfully able to create and implement new neighborhood safety initiatives, expand recreation opportunities to all families on the Near West Side and promote urban agriculture. Kerry also worked to increase community connectivity through raising awareness around issues affecting the LGBT community, social service agencies, as well as transit and infrastructure investment for residents of public housing.

In 2012, Kerry worked on the successful reelection efforts of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. Beforehand, Kerry lived for two years in Madrid, Spain and taught first grade English in the Madrid public schools. It was during his time in Spain that Kerry learned about the hard work and patience it takes to be a teacher and how critically important a strong education system is to a community.

Kerry earned his bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a double minor in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Miami University of Ohio. Kerry attended Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School and was raised in a diverse Cleveland neighborhood where he was always taught to value a community comprised of people of all different backgrounds.

Kerry is a proud resident and homeowner in the Ohio City neighborhood and enjoys spending time in all areas of Ward 3.
