About

Councilman Kerry McCormack has served Ward 3 on Cleveland City Council since 2016.  During his time on Council, Kerry has gone to bat for his residents on issues large and small.  Kerry has also taken on systemic challenges and helped usher in new vibrancy to the community he represents.

Throughout his tenure, Kerry has championed progressive policy and action that has taken on health and enviromental injustice issues, quality housing opportunities for people of all income levels, as well as civil rights that protect the LGBTQ+ community and that address the plague of systemic racism.

Kerry has help secure tens of millions of dollars in infrastructure investments in our parks, roads, world-class trails and beyond. Kerry has also championed multimodal infrastructure by writing a new Complete and Green Streets policy as well as a safe passage around construction zones law.  These infrastructure investments, along with supporting new small businesses and housing has brought renewed vibrancy to Ward 3.

Prior to his service on Council, Kerry served as the Director of Community Affairs for Ohio City Incorporated. It was through this community work that he partnered closely with residents, nonprofit agencies, small businesses and other community stakeholders to identify needs in the community and develop programs and initiatives to raise the quality of life for all in the neighborhood.

Prior to his work at Ohio City Incorporated, Kerry worked on the successful reelection campaign of U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown. Beforehand, Kerry lived for two years in Madrid, Spain and taught grade school English in the Madrid public schools. It was during his time in Spain that Kerry learned about the hard work and patience it takes to be a teacher and how critically important a strong education system is to a community.

Kerry earned his bachelor’s degree in International Studies with a double minor in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Miami University of Ohio. Kerry attended Villa Angela – St. Joseph High School and was raised in the North Collinwood neighborhood of Cleveland.

Kerry lives in the Ohio City neighborhood of Ward 3 with his husband Edward and their two rescue pups Frankie and Rocky.
